Be Like Batson Memorial Fundraiser

Be Like Batson Memorial Fundraiser

Please join members of the Storm Peak Wildland Fire Module, past and present, in honoring our fallen friend Evan S. Batson with a donation to the Wildland Firefighter Foundation.

On May 26, 2021, Evan was on assignment in Natchez, Mississippi, assisting with prescribed fire operations. That evening, Evan was involved in a tragic off-duty accident, which took his life. Time stood still for so many of us as we received word that our friend and brother had lost his life.

But time didn’t stand still for the Wildland Firefighter Foundation. In that dark hour, staff and leadership were gearing up to do what they do best: help families when they need it most. Through donations, like the one you’re considering right now, the Wildland Firefighter Foundation is able to alleviate hardships facing the families of firefighters who have lost their lives by providing tangible resources, like flights and rental cars, to less-seen services like grief and bereavement resources and legacy preservation.

If you were lucky enough to know Evan, you remember his quick wit and stories. You know he would give you the shirt off his back, help you change the brakes on your car or the derailleur on your bike, and make you laugh all while doing it. Evan was one-of-a-kind. No matter what you were doing, whether it was digging fireline on the steepest of slopes or ripping mountain bikes down trails, it was always better when you were doing it with Evan.

Evan worked as a career wildland firefighter on the Payette, Medicine Bow-Routt, Manti-La Sal, and San Juan National Forests. He spent time on fuels crews, hand crews, and helitack crews and eventually ended up on two different wildland fire modules, including Columbine Wildland Fire Module based in Bayfield, CO and Storm Peak Wildland Fire Module based in Steamboat Springs, CO. His independence, intelligence, and natural ability suited the module life, and the module life suited him. He loved it and in doing so, made those around him love it as well.

Please consider contributing to Evan’s legacy with a donation of any amount.

The Wildland Firefighter Foundation stood by Evan’s family during their toughest times. Now, let’s stand behind the Wildland Firefighter Foundation and ensure that their important work, and Evan’s memory, lives on.

Thank you, and remember,

Be Like Batson
